During the COVID pandemic one of the largest complications we encountered was the different information, and misinformation, obtained from so many sources including friends and family members. It impacted DSP and supported individual thinking and opinion on best practices and severity of situation. Many DSPs were not even familiar with transmission, symptoms, or resources available to them both personally and from an employment perspective. With appropriate support, open communication, and accurate timely information we were able to reverse course on potential complications and misunderstandings.
- Identify DSP sources of information as well as personal fears.
- Understand how to successfully convey up to date and accurate information with DSPs and supported individuals.
- Create individualized specific supports to maintain structure and accountability during a crisis.
