Session 101 | Multi-Sensory Environments: A Treatment Alternative for Self-Regulated Behavior and Stress Reduction

Thursday, August 16, 2018
10:30am – 11:45am

Measurable shifts into a broader state of consciousness is possible using the Mindful Approach within a multi-sensory environment. The science of mindful attention and awareness has been used to understand and document this shift, and been applied to the IDD population. Human Systems Dynamics models and complexity science analysis can be used to prove functional and behavioral improvements of overcoming emotional triggers and reduced range of positive behavioral options which can develop during periods of stress and trauma. Behavior analysts can integrate these techniques into behavioral treatment plans to lessen negative responses to environmental stressors.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Attendees will understand how the fight-flight-freeze response can be reduced by promoting the relaxation response in MSE treatment.
  • Attendees will analyze which categories of MSE equipment can be used to promote relaxation or reduce boredom.
  • Attendees will be able to integrate MSE treatment techniques into behavioral treatment plans

Learning Level:  Beginner to Intermediate
